12 Town searches for Community Energy Plan consultant The Town will spend no more than $140,000 for a consultant to find practical ways to lower operating costs and greenhouse emissions, while raising Green Energy awareness and complying with regulations. Last Monday, Council approved the terms of reference for the Mayor's Community Energy Plan, and issued a request for proposal from consultants to develop a required Energy Conservation and Demand Plan. Staff said the plan will deliver practical actions which will translate into measurable financial benefits, efficiencies, reduced operating costs, lower greenhouse emissions, community awareness and corporate leadership. Along with fulfilling requirements of the Provincial Green Energy Act, Sustainability Coordinator Damian Szybalski said the Town is committed to the Canadian Federation of Municipality's Partners of Climate Protection program, which will "blend the Town's internal corporate energy objective with those of the broader community." The Plan would focus on a limited number of specific projects, initiatives and legislative/policy changes, with the greatest benefit from energy savings, greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy generation and community awareness. Mayor Rick Bonnette wants to take advantage of any provincial programs and Szybalski identified two tools that are available, one a template for energy summaries. Szybalski said the terms of reference deal with mandated requirements in the was great. The music was perfect with lots of people dancing the night away. The Ladies Auxiliary hosted Zone darts last Saturday and Acton won; second was Port Credit; third was Georgetown B and fourth was Georgetown C. Good luck ladies in advancing to District darts in Welland. The signup sheet is now full for the horseshoes for this coming Sunday. To all of the players do not forget it is pot luck so bring your favourite dish for everyone to taste. Let's just hope that there will be at last a bit of snow for the horseshoes as it is going to rain this coming week. If you have nothing planned come out and cheer them on. It will be a great day of fun. THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, JANUARY 31, 2013 province's Clean Energy Act, including an energy audit on each Town facility by July 2013. The following year, the Town will be required to file a five-year energy conservation and demand management plan, not only for the Town but also for the residential and business energy users. Georgetown Councillor Ann Lawlor appreciates that Halton Hills Energy Corporation, a subsidiary of Halton Hills Hydro, which is owned by the Town, is "carrying the can" for the $140,000 consultant. "I must say I was a bit taken aback when I saw the price tag because in some ways here we're spending a whole lot of money savings things when some might argue we should just get on and do it," Lawlor said, adding they need the benchmark data.
