Appleby clinches spot in OFSAA quarterfinals Abbey Park remains in hunt for playoff berth Andrew Tarasca scored twice to lead the Appleby College Blue Dogs to a 4-0 win over E.L. Crossley Wednesday morning. The win improved Appleby College to 3-0 in the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) boys' A/AA hockey tournament and clinched a spot in the quarter-finals. Tarasca scored just 1:32 into the game and that was all Avery Gobbo needed as he blanked Crossley. Evan Patterson and Tarasca extended the Blue Dogs' lead in the second period and Zachary Ribau capped the scoring in the third. Appleby was set to face Belle River in its final round-robin game Wednesday night. The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders dropped to 0-3 following a 7-2 loss to Holy Trinity (Kanta) Wednesday morning. Trinity opened up a 3-0 lead before Andrew Kew's power-play goal got the Raiders on the board at the end of the first. Curlew leads Blue Dogs to three wins at OFSAA girls hockey Amy Curlew had six goals as Appleby College won its first three games of the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations girls A/AA hockey tournament in Sudbury. Five different players scored in a 5-1 win over E.L. Crossley that improved the Blue Dogs to 3-0. Curlew, Meagan Laviolette, Melanie Forbes, Jennifer MacAskill and Julia Fitzpatrick had the Appleby goals. Curlew had a hat trick in a 6-1 win over St. Charles. Forbes, MacAskill and Emma Thompson also scored for Appleby. The Blue Dogs opened the tournament with a 6-0 win over Almaguin Highlands. Curlew had a pair with singles going to Jamie Bourbonnais, Maddie Sisokin, Julia Fitzpatrick and Kaitlin Saxton. The Loyola Hawks were shut out 6-0 by Saltfleet DHS in the opening game of the OFSAA girls' AAA/ AAAA tournament.
