Mayor to bring proposal to April 14 meeting continued from p.6 We are the council members who unanimously protected 2,300 acres of environmental lands across Oakville, north of Dundas, in the first-ever municipal greenbelt -- the Oakville Natural Heritage System (NHS). We are the council members who unanimously protected an additional 124,000 acres of environmental lands across Halton in the enhanced Halton Natural Heritage System. So far, we already have protected more than 502 square kilometres and we are committed to continuing to protect as much green space as possible so Oakville can be Canada's most livable town. 2) At both the Town and the Regional councils, we have already unanimously asked the Province to put all of the lands designated as `natural area' on the Merton Study maps into the Greenbelt, as a way for the Province to demonstrate they will honour our designation of these lands as protected green space. In discussions with the Province they have not at any time refused to grant our request. They are following the due process and public notice rules prescribed in their legislation. I am confident the Province will grant our request, in due course, in accord with the established process that has already seen the 600 acres of the Glenorchy lands to the north of the Merton lands put in the Greenbelt and saved, not paved. 3) It is unfortunate that misinformation about the status of the Greenbelt proposal was distributed at the Merton meeting. I regret that this individual was unable to accurately describe the status of our Greenbelt application. The Greenbelt application has not been refused. Our Greenbelt application includes 9 | Friday, March 21, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com 3 Day Sale! As I am the one who spent his own money and time and took on the risk of going to the OMB two separate times to fight to save the Natural Heritage System policy framework in the Official Plan before I ever became mayor, I welcome the conversion of anyone to the cause of protecting our green space, but I must correct this misinformation. At the April 14 Town council meeting, I will be bringing forward to council my evidence -- and science-based proposal to save all the Merton lands, based upon the science and the evidence from the work of the Merton Lands Study and our other green lands protection work by Oakville's fine professional planning staff in whom I continue to have the greatest confidence. It is because we make evidence-based policy decisions and not arbitrary and emotional "just say no" decisions, that we have our amazing track record of success in controlling growth (and taxes and debt) to a much more reasonable rate and level than before 2006, as well as already having protected and saved from development 502 square kilometers of green space. Our methodical, evidence-based approach is how we will save, and not pave, the Merton lands. Land-use rights exist and are ensured and protected by provincial laws and regulations, and arbitrary decisions against development have never stood up. It is my hope that our highly-engaged residents will not only see this work to save the Merton lands through with us to a successful conclusion in June, but also appreciate having what I can proudly call the greenest Council in Canada. 1080P 120CMR HDMI Wifi 1080P 40" Smart TV 46" Smart TV XR240 HDMI Wifi 48" Smart TV 599 1080P 240CMR HDMI Wifi 699 1099 KDL48W600 8W600 899 1199 Limited Quantity Limited Quantity 1080P 240CMR HDMI Wifi 1080P 46 46" Smart TV 50 50" Smart TV 240CMR HDMI Wifi 55 55" Smart TV UN46F6300 999 899 UN50F6300 UN55F6300 1080P 240CMR HDMI USB 1080P 55" 240CMR HDMI USB 1080P 60" 120Hz HDMI USB 70" UN55FH6030 FH6030 UN60EH6003 UN60EH UN EH60 6003 1299 60" 3D Limited Quantity LC70LE550 LE550 1699 65" Smart TV 1080P 240CMR HDMI Wifi 1080P 60" Smart TV 480CMR HDMI Wifi 1080P 240CMR HDMI Wifi UN60F6300 1599 Limited Quantity Smart TV UN60F6400 1699 3D Limited Quantity UN65F6300 1899 3D Limited Quantity Limited Quantity 1080P XR480 HDMI Wifi 1080P 1080 55" Smart TV 720CMR HDMI Wifi 1080P 1080 55 55" Smart TV 720CMR HDMI Wifi 60 60" Smart TV KDL55W950 2199 UN55F7100 UN UN55F7 F710 1699 UN60F7100 2199 VISIT OUR WEDNESDAY, Open House on See us for f the th best b prices!....Our pric pr ces!....Our O prices i can't tb be e beat! !
