www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, March 27, 2014 | 2 NEWS AND INFORMATION FROM OAKVILLE-TRAFALGAR MEMORIAL HOSPITAL MARCH 2014 New hospital... new design... better care! It's certainly hard to miss at the corner of Third Line and Dundas Street, where the 1.6 million square foot New Oakville Hospital is being constructed to replace the existing Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Built to meet the needs of Oakville's growing population the new hospital will have capacity for 457 inpatient beds with built space and flexibility to grow to 602 beds in the future. Despite the deep freeze we've experienced this winter, the New Oakville Hospital's construction continues on-schedule and has surpassed 60% completion. Work happening inside the building includes dry walling, painting, flooring, elevator installations and millwork. The Hospital is well on its way to substantial completion in Summer 2015 with opening day scheduled for late 2015. Volunteer Appreciation Week National Volunteer Appreciation Week is April 6 to 12, 2014. This year's theme is, "Volunteers Give the Best Gift of All...Themselves". Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital is very fortunate that so many volunteers have chosen us to share their gift of time and talent to help improve our patient experience. Halton Healthcare Services would like to extend a BIG thank you to all its volunteers for all their hard work and dedication in service and fundraising. Our volunteers are definitely making a difference for our patients, our visitors, our staff and physicians, and each other, every day. They are an integral part of our healthcare team. Thank you so much for all you do! Birmingham Bed Bank Challenge May 4th The annual Birmingham Bed Bank Challenge event, in support of the Oakville Hospital Foundation, is back with a special challenge! This year, local businesses, schools, or families can register a team and race their "bed" down Lakeshore Road on Sunday, May 4th. The fee is $500 and each team must raise a minimum of $250 in pledges. Call Michelle at 905-845-2571, ext. 6253 for more information or visit www.bankbedchallenge.com. Restoring The Balance Living a balanced and healthy lifestyle begins with a healthy mind. A new event in Oakville aims to help people achieve that balance while also raising funds for Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH). Hosted in association with The Clarity Centre, the Company of Women and Le Dome Banquet Hall, the one-day event includes vendors, exhibitors, and experts to support participants in their pathway to balance. All net proceeds from the event will support the expansion of services for the outpatient mental health program at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Tickets are a minimum $5 donation at the door. Children 12 and under are free. For more information about the event, please visit www.restoringthebalance.ca. Emergency Waiting Room Renovations March 25th to 29th The Emergency Department waiting room at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) is undergoing some minor renovations to provide a more welcoming area for patients and their families. This work, which will occur from March 25th to 29th, will not disrupt service or patient care. Thank you for your understanding. We apologize for any inconvenience. HHS Organ and Tissue Registration Drive Wow! What an amazing success! Our dedicated staff, volunteers, families and friends at Halton Healthcare Services completed an organ and tissue donation drive in March, in less than 2 weeks. Well over 500 people signed up or checked on an existing registration! Thanks to this effort, potentially 4000 people in the future could in some way be helped. Making Treatment Decisions for a Loved One: What YOU need to KNOW! What happens if a loved one shows up in the emergency room unconscious, delirious or in any situation where they are too ill or incapable of speaking for themselves? How do they communicate their medical wishes to the medical team? It is important to ensure that their values, wishes and beliefs are properly respected. Halton Healthcare Services is hosting a free seminar on Substitute Decision Making. beadonor.ca Our customized www.BeADonor.ca/haltonhealthcare web page will permanently remain active, so should anyone who has not yet registered and wishes to join us in the future will always have a chance to do so.
