Hudak to speak at Chamber April 25 Halton attracting more family doctors The Oakville Chamber of Commerce will host Ontario Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak at its luncheon on Friday, April 25. "We are very pleased to have the opportunity to host Mr. Hudak," Chamber Chair Orla Johnston stated in a press release. "Given a possible spring provincial election, our members will be very interested in hearing directly from Mr. Hudak about his vision for the province." The event at the Holiday Inn Oakville Centre, 590 Argus Rd., is the latest in the chamber's speaking engagement series. Over the past two years, it has hosted party leaders, cabinet ministers, senior government officials and prominent business leaders. Members of the public are also invited to attend and can purchase tickets online at www.oakvillechamber.com or by contacting Carina at 905-845-6613, ext. 205 or carina@oakvillechamber.com. Tickets cost $25 for chamber members and $30 for non-members. The event starts with registration at 11:30 a.m., followed by the luncheon from noon-1 p.m. Halton Region says its Physician Recruitment program had another successful year in 2013 as 22 family physicians each established their practice in the region. Since Halton's recruitment initiative began in 2003, more than 200 new family doctors have come to Halton to practice. "Attracting new physicians to establish medical practices in Halton is a key priority in the Citizens' Priorities Action Plan," said Regional Chair Gary Carr. "The successful Physician Recruitment program addresses both current and future physician needs. Thanks to this collaborative partnership involving all four local municipalities, local hospitals, clinics and community representatives, we are well on our way to meeting the goal of a family doctor for every Halton resident." Carr said the program also recruits family physicians to cover maternity and other leaves and assists hospitals with their specialist recruiting for psychiatrists, pediatricians, emergency room physicians, and others. He said the program continues to provide support to the Halton McMaster Family Health Centre in Burlington.
