Sign up for Gabrielle's Ride at kickoff Residents can join Gabrielle's Ride early this year with a kick-off fundraising celebration set for tomorrow (Thursday). Held at 7 p.m. at Philthy McNasty's, 379 Speers Rd., the kick-off supports the third annual Gabrielle's Ride, which has raised more than $125,000 for congenital heart disease and pediatric stroke research and treatment at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). Philthy McNasty's will also be donating 10 per cent of its sales that evening to the cause. The late Gabrielle Ide Cinanni died of congenital heart disease on Nov. 9, 2010 -- and wanting to keep her daughter's memory alive and help other children with similar conditions, Gabrielle's mom, Nikki Ide, crepurchased by emailing info@gabriellesride. com. Gabrielle's Ride raised $80,000 in 2012, its inaugural year, in support of an international conference focused on preventing cardiac stroke in children, which took place earlier this year on Feb. 15 in San Diego, CA. Ide was invited to speak at the symposium. She told her daughter's story and how Gabrielle's Ride helped make the conference happen and strides in pediatric cardiac and stroke care. This year's 100-kilometre charity bike ride through Oakville is slated for July 20 at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, 3070 Neyagawa Blvd. For more information, visit www. gabriellesride.com or call 416-726-8540. 9 | Wednesday, April 16, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Gabrielle Ide Cinanni ated the charity cycling event, Gabrielle's Ride. The Town of Oakville appreciates your feedback and ideas and we encourage you to get involved. At this second open house, the project team would like to meet with you to obtain input, present the project details, review study findings, and address comments and concerns. At the first open house on June 25, 2013, participants were given the opportunity to learn about this study and give preliminary input. Since then, the project team has undertaken a detailed assessment of the study corridor, developed a set of alternative road designs for the corridor, finalized a set of evaluation criteria based on public and stakeholder input, assessed each alternative against the evaluation criteria, and selected a preliminary preferred design for the corridor. At this open house you will have the opportunity to review and comment on the preliminary preferred design. Input received will be used to determine whether any changes or adaptations are needed, finalize the preferred design, and document the process in an Environmental Study Report expected to be available for public review in the spring of 2014. This Class Environmental Assessment (EA) study was implemented to develop a new road design for sections of Burnhamthorpe Road between Ninth Line and Sixteen Mile Creek. Burnhamthorpe Road is currently designated as a regional arterial road under the jurisdiction of Halton Region. However, the approved New North Oakville Transportation Corridor is expected to address future east-west travel demands in the vicinity of Burnhamthorpe Road, replacing the regional road function for this area. The remaining portions of Burnhamthorpe Road (see map below) will be converted to a character road facility to serve the growing North Oakville community. For the most current information about this study including meeting dates, please email burnhamthorpe@oakville.ca to be added to the mailing list.
