The Region announced the appointment of Oakville resident Dr. Hamidah Meghani to the position Wednesday. Meghani, who has served as Associate Medical Of cer of Health for the City of Hamilton since 2012, will take over leadership of Halton's Health Department on July 14. "I am extremely excited. This is basically like a dream job for me," she said. "I am really hoping to do some great work with the current public health staff and paramedic services as well." In an effort to revive businesses in the areas after a dif cult winter, Burton plans to bring forward what he calls a "stimulus initiative" at the Town of Oakville's Community Services Standing Committee April 22 and then to Town council April 28. The mayor said he is proposing to have staff create a free parking policy in the downtown Mayor Rob Burton Business Improvement Area (BIA) that could be ready for implementation by June. If passed, the policy would be in effect until the completion of Lakeshore Road reconstruction, which is scheduled for 2016 and 2017.
