www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, May 1, 2014 | 6 Oakville cleans up Spotlight More than a dozen volunteers with the Chinese seniors club -- including Mei Zhen Zhang at top left -- took part in Saturday's 23rd annual Earth Week Clean Up, donning work gloves to help spruce up the park and green spaces around the Iroquois Ridge Community Centre, where the club meets. The annual spring clean event was organized by the Oakville Community Centre for Peace, Ecology and Human Right (OCCPEHR) and took place at some 40 parks and green spaces -- a reduced number over previous years because of closures in the wake of December 2013's ice storm damage. At Bronte Bluffs, volunteers from the Bronte Village Residents Association, Bronte Harbour Yacht Club and Church of the Epiphany joined in, including Ana Hourahine and her daughter Jazz, 12, who picked up litter and discarded bottles (top right). Above, Cindy Devai scours the thick underbrush for discarded trash while, at right, Tom Holmes cleans up the waters edge at the base of Bronte Bluffs Park. At left, Deying Zhong braves the chilly morning to pick up litter in the playground adjacent to Iroquois Ridge Community Centre. OCCPEHR executive director Stephen Dankowich estimates there were approximately 440 bags of garbage lled.| photos by Graham Paine - Oakville Beaver (Follow on Twitter @ halton_photog) Volume 52 | Number 52 447 Speers Road, Oakville ON (905) 845-3824 Oakville Beaver is a member of the Ontario Press Council.
