This was a key message at the launch of Sexual Assault Awareness Month at the Halton Regional Centre Thursday. Organized by the Halton Violence Prevention Council (HVPC) and Halton Region, the event made it clear that even though Halton is one of Canada's safest communities, there is still much work to be done on sexual assault prevention. Kathryn Baker-Reed, executive director of the Sexual Assault & Violence Intervention Services (SAVIS) of Halton, said her organization responded to 623 crisis calls and delivered 1,116 hours of counselling in the past year. "A minimum of one-in-three Canadian women will experience at least one incident of sexual assault, and often more," she said. "In addition, one-in-two girls and a minimum of one-in-six boys will experience sexual abuse. The official statistic for boys is considered somewhat low and, as men come forward more and more to receive support services, we strongly suspect the statistic is one in four." see Society on p.12 DANCE PROFESSIONAL CURRICULUM FOR ACROBATIC DANC ROYAL ACADEMY OF More often than not the transgender lived experience includes an element of compromised mental well being exacerbated by marginalization, isolation, loneliness, and personal loss.
