continued from p.1 The week officially kick-started with a Mental Health Symposium April 30, where more than 350 HDSB staff attended and it was announced that RBC -- as part of its Children's Mental Health Project -- would donate $120,000 to support the symposium over the next three years. The funding will also support initiatives such as HDSB's Mental Health and Addictions Strategy, which targets building mental health literacy across the school system. Public board honouring Student Excellence in its schools The HDSB also launched its Pathway to Care, which details board and community services . Georgetown District High School has daily activities planned to promote the week, highlighted by a Mental Health Fair today (May 8). Oakville's Emily Carr Public School opened the week with an assembly Monday addressing respect with speaker Chris Vollum of Social Media Fitness 101. He also led a parent workshop in the evening. The school will offer meditation, hip-hop, yoga stretching and nutrition activities. Beyond the week, the Halton Runs for Mental Health event, co-sponsored by HDSB, is taking place at the Waterfront Hotel in Burlington on Sunday, June 1 at 9 a.m. The five-kilometre event will raise funds to be used to promote mental health in Halton schools during the 2014-15 year. The Amarna Fund at the Oakville Community Foundation (OCF) will match all donations of up to $5,000.
