A Source Protection Committee was established in accordance with the Clean Water Act, 2006 to ensure communities are able to protect their drinking water sources through the development of collaborative, locally driven, science-based source protection plans for watersheds in their region. The role of the Source Protection Committee is to guide the development of the source protection plan and to ensure that all relevant information is being taken into account when protecting our sources of drinking water. The Source Protection Committee is comprised of 15 members, plus the chair. The breakdown of members is as follows: 5 members representing municipalities; 2 members representing the agricultural sector; 1 member representing the aggregate industry; 1 member representing the home builder industry; 1 member representing the commercial industry in recreation; 2 members representing the environmental non-governmental organizations; and 3 members representing the public interest at large. The members act as a liaison for their sector, regularly attend committee meetings (primarily afternoon meetings), and help guide the development of source protection plans for the region.
