www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, May 15, 2014 | 14 Halton Region wants to hear from provincial candidates Halton Region is weighing in on the upcoming provincial election in Ontario. The regional municipality announced it will be calling on candidates seeking election in the upcoming June 12 provincial election to show exactly where they stand on a variety of issues of key importance to Halton's future. Regional Chair Gary Carr announced Tuesday the Region has sent a special questionnaire to all provincial candidates in the ridings affecting Halton Region. Those ridings include Oakville, Burlington, Halton, and Wellington-Halton Hills. "This questionnaire is an opportunity for candidates to explain to voters how they will advocate for Halton and how their party will resolve the challenges facing Halton Region," said Carr. "It is important for us to know where all the candidates stand on these important issues to ensure they voice Halton's concerns at Queen's Park." The questionnaires were sent out Tuesday and candidates have been asked to return them by May 23. Responses will be posted on www.halton. ca/ontarioelection2014. "I hope residents find this questionnaire and our advocacy documents to be useful tools before they cast their ballots," said Carr. The questionnaire is part of the Region's Advocating for a Strong Halton program, which seeks to highlight and provide information to residents and the provincial and federal governments regarding some of the challenges and critical issues related to Halton's future. Carr said issues such as infrastructure, costs associated with growth, housing, public health and provincial cost sharing agreements are all issues that have been identified by residents as important to them and their families.
