Halton seeks applications for Summer Company Halton Region is now taking applications for the 2014 Summer Company Program. The initiative gives students between the ages of 15-29, the support needed to start and run their own business. Summer Company is a provincial program for youth entrepreneurship and employment that is co-ordinated locally through Halton Region's Small Business Centre. Successful applicants will receive hands-on business training and mentoring, and could receive up to $3,000 in funding to help start and run their own summer businesses. "Entrepreneurship plays an important role in innovation, job creation and economic growth," said Regional Chair Gary Carr. "Halton is proud to offer students support through the Summer Company program as it helps provide young entrepreneurs with the coaching, training, and mentoring that can help them succeed," stated Carr in a press release. May 23 is the deadline to apply The deadline for submissions is May 23, 2014, however, Summer Company is a competitive program with limited spaces and students are encouraged to complete their applications early. Take notice that the Halton District School Board (the "Board") proposes to amend the Halton District School Board Education Development Charges By-law, 2013 (the "By-law"), which came into effect on June 24, 2013. The schedule of education development charges now imposed by the By-law is as follows: Public Information Centre Construction of a Trunk Wastewater Main on Trafalgar Road (Regional Road 3), Rebecca Street and Lakeshore Road ending at the Oakville Southwest Wastewater Treatment Plant, 1385 Lakeshore Road, Town of Oakville PR-2869 Halton Region is planning to construct a trunk wastewater main on Trafalgar Road, Rebecca Street and Lakeshore Road ending at the Oakville Southwest Wastewater Treatment Plant beginning Fall 2014. A Public Information Centre will be held for residents who want to learn more about the construction project. Please drop in at any time. Halton staff will be available to answer your questions. Charge on residential development $2,691.00 per dwelling unit Charge on non-residential development: $0.69 per square foot ($7.43 per square metre) of gross floor area Date: Time: Place: The proposed amending by-law will increase the charge on residential development to $3,380 per dwelling unit and the charge on non-residential development to $0.87 per square foot ($9.36 per square metre) of gross floor area. The increase is due to an increase in the education land costs incurred by the Board over those estimated when the By-law was passed in 2013. The By-law applies to all lands in the Regional Municipality of Halton. Accordingly, a key map showing the location of the land subject to the Bylaw is not provided as part of this notice. The Board will consider the proposed amending by-law at the meeting of the Board to be held on June 4, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. at the J.W. Singleton Centre, 2050 Guelph Line, Burlington, Ontario. Should an amending by-law be passed on such date, collection of education development charges pursuant to the By-law, as amended, will commence on June 9, 2014. If a person wishes to address the Board at the meeting, he or she is requested to advise the Board on or before noon, May 27, 2014.
