Family-friendly shows include illusionist D'Urzo continued from p.20 It continues with concerts by The Toronto All-Star Big Band on Oct. 26, Cuddy on Oct. 28 and Inti-Illimani on Oct. 29, which Howarth describes as a great show coming to Oakville from South America that brings a blend of tango, samba and Latin flavour. "We always try to bring the best quality artists and also present emerging artists that one day will be more recognizable," added Ronnie Brown, the marketing, programming and development co-ordinator for the Oakville Centre. "We're dedicated to supporting all types of artists." Other highlighted performances include family-friendly shows like the internationally-acclaimed Famous People Players and their life-size backlight puppets Nov. 16, illusionist D'Urzo on Dec. 20, Wild Kratts, a live stage production starring the Kratts brothers, Martin and Kris on Jan. 4, 2015 and Spot the Dog on Jan. 10, 2014. Classic Albums Live will return Oct. 30 to present Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell album. Brown said the centre has evolved into a central hub of entertainment. "It's a place where a lot of people like to say `one day we could be performing on stage and the next day we could be sitting in (the) audience watching something,'" he said. "What people really enjoy here, what we found with our members are, they're coming with groups of friends and it's a real social experience for them. When they see something, they love talking about it later, they go for dinner, they walk around downtown and they make it more than just going to see the show and going home." Howarth explains it's that kind of experience the centre is committed to investing in. Noting how the aging auditorium speaker system will be replaced this summer to provide equal and balanced sound coverage, he added the centre is actively involved with the Town of Oakville and its Downtown Cultural Hub Study as it explores opportunities to create a downtown cultural space that includes a new performing arts centre, an art gallery, a library and an outdoor program space that will become the cultural, social, and economic heart of our community and meet the needs of Oakville for the next 50 years. The website, which will re-launch May 20, is also being revamped to be more interactive and engaging. For a detailed list of shows and performances, visit www.oakvillecentre.ca.
