It is encouraging students of all ages and musical backgrounds to submit an application for nancial relief to its program, recognized internationally as one of the top summer music programs in the world. Two week-long summer sessions at the 540 Lakeshore Rd. W. location run July 1318 and July 20-25. The organization also offers another week-long session in Vancouver, B.C. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday (April 30). Full- and partial-scholarship awards are based on musicianship, reference letters, and nancial need. Brian Murray, the director of the Guitar Workshop Plus program, told the Oakville Beaver new to its roster of scholarships is the Rick Courtemanche Scholarship Award. It was created in memory of the faculty mem- ber who died of cancer this past year, he said. Murray added the scholarships offer students a chance to study with some of the nest musicians and educators in the music industry at the Oakville school. This year's teachers include renowned musicians Rick Emmett, Dave LaRue, Brent Mason, Muriel Anderson, Alain Caron, Tony McManus, Jon Finn and Vito Rezza. Located on the Oakville school campus by the lake, he added it's the perfect setting to allow musicians to focus on their learning, exchange ideas and be fully immersed in music. "You get to live, eat and breathe your passion," said Murray, who has been involved in organizing the program over the last 14 years. He said he believes its the only music camp out there that really focuses on music all the time, offering something for guitarists drummers, vocalists, keyboardist and other instruments in a variety of genres. Noting how proud Oakville residents should be that this is happening right in their own backyard, he's encouraging residents to join the summer sessions designed for aspiring musicians of all ages including teenagers, adult hobbyists, students pursuing music careers, semi-professional and professional musicians Special seminars include Songwriting, Hot Country Guitar, Art of Solo Guitar, Rock Guitar Mastery, and the Bass Summit.
