The Oakville-based charitable arts organization is hosting a Salute to Youth and inviting residents to enjoy an evening out at the 1086 Burnhamthorpe Rd. E. facility featuring Canada's up-and-coming classical musicians beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $100 and can be purchased by visiting www.arthouseonline.org. The evening will feature nine-year-old pianist Harmony Zhu, who placed first in her age category at the Canadian Music Competition (CMC) National Finals in Quebec last year, as well as Oakville violinist Ji Soo Choi, who was the 2013 CMC National Grand Prize Winner. Violinist Ariele Silverberg, Toronto painter and urban artist Jessica Gorlicky and ArtHouse Chorus of Voices program, under the direction of Sarah MorJi Soo Choi rison, will also perform. The concert is part of ArtHouse's G3 Summit festival series now in its sixth season. It brings together internationally acclaimed performers and Canada's finest musicians in support of ArtHouse's cost-free arts programming for children in Oakville and Burlington. This year, more than 600 children at 17 locations through 39 programs will be served. The Ryerson Theatre School graduate took home one of 50 THEA award statuettes for Best Performance Male in a Supporting Role in Burl-Oak Theatre Group's (BOTG) production of Leading Ladies earlier this year. ACT-CO said he was chosen because his "shenanigans, particularly as Jack's alter ego, Stephanie, kept the audience in stitches. "Pushing his performance to the edge, he resisted the temptation to go over the top and thus kept a modicum of dignity. Always in character, he played the role with great abandon in this unlikely farcical world." The play, which had five nominations at the gala, was performed at both the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts and The Burlington Performing Arts Centres in January as part of BOTG's 2013-2013 Season of Comedy. Led by director Lana Borsellino, Leading Ladies starred Kate Park as Meg Snider, Mike Mitton as Duncan Wooley, Robert Laszcz as Doctor Myers, Peter Churey as Leo Clark, Rella as Jack Gable, Melissa Verwey as Audrey, Lois Minard as Florence Snider and Michael Pearson as Butch Myers.
