www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, May 29, 2014 | 18 Coalition candidate says other parties make big promises by Steve LeBlanc Metroland West Media Group As the long-time owner and operator of a Sears dealer store, Gerry Marsh says he's well aware of "all the red tape and filing" necessary to open a business. If elected June 12, the 60-year-old Miltonian said he would push to cut through what he feels are the obstacles to that. "There's a lot of promises made in terms of creating so many new jobs, but there's no real way to measure that," said Marsh, who recently joined the Family Coalition Party and is now its Halton riding candidate. "We need to focus on creating an environment for job creation... which means lower taxes and energy costs, and less red tape. We need to make it easier for small businesses to open." A married father with four children and two grandsons, Marsh said he is disenfranchised by the three major parties -- feeling a lot of promises have been made with little delivery. "Looking at their plans, I couldn't find myself voting for one of them. Then I took a look at the Family Coalition Party and I found myself agreeing with the vast majority of their beliefs. I thought, `I can run for these guys.'" A mayoral challenger during the last two municipal elections, Marsh said speeding the addition of a third GO Transit track along the Milton route would help ease gridlock. He added many regional roads should have been widened much sooner, and questioned if the Milton GO station truly works at its current location. "The parking is horrendous. It just doesn't lend itself to commuters." Marsh said municipalities need to be given more control over development charges to accelerate projects. "Provincial control needs to be lessoned," he said, noting the Milton Hospital expansion isn't moving quickly enough. Marsh said he's heavily invested in Halton and would be a fierce supporter of the people of this region. He said, "I'd make noise (at Queen's Park), not just sit back and accept things. I'd dig deep into the issues this riding is concerned about and look for answers." Notice of Halton Region's 2014 Comprehensive Employment Survey The Regional Municipality of Halton will be conducting its Annual Comprehensive Employment Survey in 2014. The data collected is vital for monitoring the Region's economic health, as well as aiding in policy and decision making. It is essential background information for forecasting and planning the Region's infrastructure and services for the residents and businesses of Halton. Between May and September 2014, a team of surveyors from the Region's Planning Services Division will visit each and every business establishment in Halton to gather information about the number of employees working at each location and the type of employment that is taking place there. The surveyors will wear a Region of Halton shirt and cap, each bearing the Halton Region Logo, as well as a visible photo ID card that identifies them as part of the "Halton Employment Survey Team 2014". All data collected from the survey will be grouped together and released to the public as statistical highlights of economic and employment patterns and trends. Individual business information will not be identifiable or published in the results of the Region's survey. It will be shared with the Local Municipalities and used for planning and municipal related purposes. The 2014 Employment Survey Results Report will be published in early 2015. The success of this important survey depends upon the assistance and co-operation of the Region's business community. If you have any questions or comments regarding the survey, please contact Planning Services at 905-825-6000 ext. 7686 2014 Rain Barrel Date Saturday, May 24, 2014 9:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014 9:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014 9:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014 9:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. $39.95 (cash only) Truckload Sales Events Part of Halton's water efficiency program Location Halton Regional Centre, (enter off North Service Road) 1151 Bronte Road, Oakville Robert C.
