"It's a community walk to help raise awareness of those who are struggling with homelessness... and have the community come together and join us in our mission to end homelessness in Halton, which is a growing problem," said Pommells. "Studies are showing between 2006-11, homelessness and those experiencing poverty have grown about 32 per cent, which is simply staggering." Pommells notes it's a different kind of challenge to be homeless in Halton because "it's not quite as apparent, so the support network isn't as extensive as one might find in others cities." That's where HSH wants to step in. Funds raised from Sunday's event will go towards HSH's two main programs. ReStart Halton is the organization's flagship program, which provides two years of long-term housing along with wrap-around services for the client families and one-year of follow-up care.
