www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday September 26, 2007 - 9 Ford wishes Oakville happy 150th By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Think Green. Be Cool. Breath Easy. Hundreds of Ford employees gathered in the cafeteria of Ford's Canadian headquarters Friday to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Oakville, the town Ford Canada says it's proud to call home. The auto-producing giant pulled out all the stops to celebrate the occasion with a party atmosphere of balloons, cake and music greeting new arrivals. Partygoers enjoyed popcorn freshly popped from the nearby carnival-style popcorn machines as well as the toe-tapping swing of a live Dixieland jazz band. Surrounded by new and antic cars, parked in the cafeteria, the merry music and the mingling conversations of those present paused only briefly as Ford and Oakville leaders mounted a podium to explain the great importance of the day's celebration. "Oakville has always been about the workers. Pioneers found the forests and turned those woods into a ship building industry. They found fish and workers gathered together boats and created a fishing industry," said Oakville MP Bonnie Brown. "About 50 years ago Ford came and Ford found a different resource and that resource was the dedication to hard work, diligence and excellence that was instilled by our forefathers here." Brown said Ford was wise enough to see these qualities and harness them, resulting in a partnership that has brought prosperity to both the company and the town.
