www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, June 12, 2014 | 10 Residents' association keeping an eye on issues continued from p.9 But with regards to Infrastructure Ontario's application to develop a 60-unit townhouse development on lands near Third Line, north of North Service Road, the Town is seeking clarification from the Province as to whether it intends to proceed with its application, he said. Residents received a notification of the Province's completed application dated April 28 from the Town. To date, the planning department has not received a withdrawal application from the Province. "Given the election, they are in caretaker mode so they don't make significant decisions other than routine matters," said McConnell of Infrastructure Ontario. Both applications, however, are on hold until the Merton Planning Study is complete, he added. Meanwhile, Infrastructure Ontario spokesperson Bianca Lankheit acknowledged the Crown corporation has received Murray's letter and that it is "assessing the next steps." When asked whether it has plans to withdraw its application, she reiterated, "This is all a part of assessing the next steps and the due diligence we're going through." She told the Beaver there is no determined time on how long it will take for Infrastructure Ontario to come to a conclusion on this matter. People aren't going to be relieved until we get finality to this. We understand things don't happen overnight. There are certain processes, decision-makers and stakeholders. The study still needs to be completed, but we're keeping our eyes on what's going on and making sure that all the decision-makers move forward with the approach they all committed to doing. Fourteen Mile Creek Residents' Association president Scott Leduc Halton.ca 311 2014 Rain Barrel Date Saturday, May 24, 2014 9:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Despite the fact that a withdrawal application has yet to be received by the Town, Ward 4 Regional and Town Councillor Allan Elgar said he's confident the Merton lands will be saved and remain as green space for future generations. He said he met with Murray June 3 to confirm his intentions and has posted a copy of a recent email Murray wrote to Burton on his website. Meanwhile residents are being "cautiously optimistic" when it comes to what's happening with the Merton lands, said Fourteen Mile Creek Residents' Association President Scott Leduc and his wife Shaniah. While residents were initially confused by the notices they received in the mail about the two completed development applications, the couple said residents have been reassured by some councillors a withdrawal application from Infrastructure Ontario is on the horizon. "People aren't going to be relieved until we get finality to this," said Scott, noting that residents are keeping a close watch to see what comes of the completed Merton lands study. Other things residents are waiting to see through to action are the lands being protected under the local Natural Heritage System designation and added to the Ontario Greenbelt. "We understand things don't happen overnight. There are certain processes, decisionmakers and stakeholders. The study still needs to be completed, but we're keeping our eyes on what's going on and making sure that all the decision-makers move forward with the approach they all committed to doing," said Scott.
