Halton police are investigating after some 200 pairs of new socks, which were collected for charity, were stolen from the Church of the Epiphany, 141 Bronte Rd., late in June. At some point during the day on Friday, June 20, someone went into the church and made off with the socks from a large donation bin. The congregation had been collecting the socks for months with the intention of donating them to homeless men, women and children. An online advertisement for the church's "Comfort the feet, comfort the soul" fundraiser states "Every step a homeless person takes is a painful one. New socks are a powerful way to show someone they are cared for." Police said the value of the socks was about $300.
