www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, July 18, 2014 | 10 Grant to boost business for Sheridan by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff Sheridan College will likely be among the educational facilities to benefit from a more than $116,000 federal grant to Colleges and Institutes Canada announced in Oakville on Tuesday. Erin O'Toole, parliamentary secretary to the minister of international trade, joined Oakville MP Terence Young at Sheridan's Skills Training Centre to announce the cash O'Toole said will help Colleges and Institutes Canada better promote schools like Sheridan abroad. The national, voluntary membership organization, to which Sheridan belongs, represents Canada's colleges, institutes and polytechnics nationally and internationally. "Part of our mission on international trade has been selling our expertise in terms of education and training. We have our International Education Initiative and we have set up an ambitious goal of bringing 450,000 students to Canada by 2022 to be educated and trained in Canada," said O'Toole. "Not only do their tuition dollars and their being here help our campuses across Canada, including here at Sheridan, but increasingly, if they get that skill and we have the demand and labour shortages, we want some of these skilled young people from around the world to stay here."
