Holy Cross Lutheran Church, on Lakeshore Road in Burlington, won the Greening Sacred Spaces Award, which is presented to a local faith space each year by the Halton-Peel Chapter of Greening Sacred Spaces. Oakville's Trafalgar Presbyterian Church on Upper Middle Road East and Burlington Baptist Church on New Street also received honourable mentions for their greening initiatives within its communities. The recognition was handed out at a World Environment Day Celebration at the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple in Mississauga in June. The event included an interfaith panel discussion on climate change, a cultural program and provided the opportunity for guests to connect and learn from each other. Christina Read, the South HaltonPeel co-ordinator of Greening Sacred Spaces, said Holy Cross Lutheran Church embraced the spirit of the award.
