Cycle Oakville glows in the dark At Midnight Madness Downtown Cycle Oakville is hosting its first glow-in-thedark ride at Midnight Madness tonight (July 18). Residents interested in participating are asked to meet at 8:45 p.m. at the bike valet parking at the corner of Thomas and Robinson streets, outside the armoury building. The eight-kilometre ride begins at 9 p.m. and lights and reflectors are mandatory, while decorating bikes and cyclists with glow sticks is recommended. The event is the brainchild of T.A. Blakelock High School student Charlotte de Caen Mische, who is taking the lead in organizing the ride. "I love riding my bike and I thought it would be a fun and unique way to promote cycling in Oakville," she said in a press release. Participants are encouraged to visit local merchants and restaurants in downtown Oakville for Midnight Madness before and after the ride. "Cycle Oakville has always supported the local Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) as a means to developing bicycle-friendly business districts," Pam Damoff, co-founder of Cycle Oakville and Town councillor, said in the release. "We hope this ride will bring new people downtown and we encourage riders to take part in Midnight Madness before and after the ride." Riders of all ages and abilities are invited to participate. Helmets are recommended for all, but required for anyone aged 18 and younger. This ride is part of Cycle Oakville's series of leisurely rides designed to encourage residents to shop, dine, explore and discover.
