The event will be held at Kelso Conservation Area in Milton from Sept. 23-26 and feature a variety of activities designed to broaden children's understanding of the important natural resource in a fun, outdoor environment. "Educating youth through events like the water festival helps increase awareness about the importance of the environment and protecting natural resources to meet our needs today, without compromising the needs of future generations." The festival will once again provide Grade 5 students with a French language day option. On Tuesday, Sept. 24, half of the Grade 5 activities will be available in French, presented by French immersion high school students. The event will also introduce French programming into the Grade 2 area this year, matching the introduction of French Immersion in the schools. The festival is co-hosted by Conservation Halton and Halton Region in partnership with Halton District School Board, Halton Catholic District School Board, City of Burlington, towns of Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville. It features 59 curriculum-based, hands-on activities that incorporate four water-related themes, including: science and technology; conservation and protection; health and safety; and society. Teachers can register their classes online through the website at www.hcwf.ca until Sept. 12 or until their grade is full. The event is a community partnership that depends on more than 150 volunteers each day to assist with various activities. Each year, more than 400 Halton high school students, and more than 100 staff from partner organizations and community volunteers all offer their time to help deliver the water event.
