The objectives Ferrari wanted to achieve with the new V12 engine in the 575M M aranello were to increase both the pow er and the torque curves. The results are a m axim um pow er out put o f 515 bp at 7250 rpm and a m axim um torque o f 434 lb ft. An optim um w eight distribution - with a 5050 split betw een the axles - including the driv er, is achieved thanks to a specific transaxle design which features a com bined rear m ount ed gearbox and differential unit w ith conical torque and autolocking differential in the same unit. T he tran sm issio n on the new 575M M aranello is fitted with the electro-hydraulic "F I" control unit m ounted at the rear o f the car. Two set-up options are available with the FI G earbox: 'Sport', for a more rapid gear change, and 'N orm al' for a more relaxed driving sfyle. Both are linked to an analogue control acting on the suspension system . By pressing the A uto button on the central tunnel the FI gearbox has a fully autom ated gear shift. The principal benefits o f the FI change on the 575M M aranello are a quicker gear change coupled with increased control o f the suspen sion system when gears are selected. The braking system has also been m odified, to cope with the increased perform ance o f the vehicle, especially in term s o f avoiding fade and im proving response un d er braking. Changes w ere focused on im proving brake cooling, thanks to a new pad m aterial (Ferodo HP 1000), reducing the brake pedal effort and increasing the level o f assistance from the servo system . Oakville 905^47-5671 575M Maranello returns to performance with increased power, torque F errari unveilled its new 575M M aranello high perform ance, front engined sports car at the G eneva M otorshow featuring a Form ula O ne style gearbox. T he key elem en t o f the new 575M M aranello is sum m ed up in its name. The new car uses a new num erical code 575 - an abbreviated indication o f its cubic capacity, which has been raised from 5500 cc to 5750 cc bringing an increase in both pow er and torque. The letter 'M ', an abbreviation o f "m odificato," underlines the fact that changes have been made to all areas o f the new m odel's perform ance. Perhaps the m ost significant change, apart from the new engine, is the introduction o f the F I-style gearbox, w hich is used for the first time on a 12 cylinder Ferrari road car. In developing the style o f this car. Ferrari designers thought the m ost im portant thing was to retain the balanced and sober looks, which had m ade the 550 M aranello an "instant classic" and vindicated Ferrari's decision to return to a front engine high perform ance car. Styling m odifications have been lim ited to those required by the technical changes intro duced on the new m odel. T here's a different shape and size for the air intakes at the front o f the car, which im prove the car's aerodynam ic and fluid-dynam ic efficiency, and there is a al and longitudinal grip. The 575M M aranello is also fitted with tyre pressure sensors, so that the pressure o f each tyre can be checked at all tim es, even when the car is m oving. The interior o f the 575M M aranello has been extensively revised. All the dials are now grouped together in one single pod in front of the driver, with the rev counter in the middle. The seats are also new. with sixelectronic adjustm ents and driver position memory. T he dashboard and centre tunnel have also been redesigned. A lso new are the steering w heel, the door trim s and the finishing o f the interior profiles.
