Oakville quartet scores for mental health with Kicks for Change by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff 9 | Friday, July 25, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Four Oakville youths are calling on residents to support mental health services at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) by participating in a local charity soccer tournament. Abbey Park High School graduates Aneesh Thakore, Roshan Jeyakumaran, Danyal Ladha, and Shan Sangha were looking for a way to give back to the community last summer and decided to use their favourite sport to make it happen. This summer, the group of 20-year-olds said they'll do it again and are organizing the second annual Kicks for Change at the River Oaks Turf Field, 2400 Sixth Line for Saturday, Aug. 16. The event will run from noon to 7 p.m. The cost is $100 per team before Aug. 1 or $120 per team afterward. Teams must have eight players. Thakore said the organizing committee, which now also includes his sister Rhea and her friends, Fouad Kadhimi and Raisa Ahmed, were encouraged to hold another tournament after last year's success. "We had eight teams last year and we ended up contributing more than $4,400 to the Oakville Hospital Foundation," he said. "This year we are actually trying to expand the tournament to 16 teams...The teams can be co-ed or not. It's up to them. Those who play must be 16 or older." The tournament will feature 5on5 games in 30-minute matches. Each team will play a minimum of three games. community high school to prevent hospitalization or to support students as they transition from the inpatient unit into a community setting. "It's a win-win scenario in my opinion," said Thakore, a big Manchester United and Toronto FC fan. "The event is for a great cause. It's funding the hospital...So besides giving back to the community it's going to be a great soccer tournament because every team which came last year was extremely competitive."
