They are the rst mosquitoes found carrying the virus in Halton this year. "This is the time of year we start to see positive lab results for West Nile virus," said Dr. Hamidah Meghani, Halton Region Medical Of cer of Health. "Halton residents should protect themselves against mosquito bites and get rid of mosquito breeding sites now and until the West Nile virus season winds down in the fall." Meghani said urban areas are more likely to have mosquitoes that carry WNV as the types of mosquitoes that transmit the virus to humans most commonly breed in urban areas in items that hold water such as birdbaths, plant pots, old toys and tires. The brightly-coloured, mini-library, which stands about a metre tall, features two shelves and currently houses approximately 30 books.
