Robert Fernandes Winning Carriers receive a large 3 topping pizza courtesy of: Oakville Rangers ice local talent on their teams (Continued from page D1) pion bantam AAA rep team, however, they have not lost any players to rival GTHL bantam teams (although two bantam-age Oakville players did play junior this season -- but that's another story). It works both ways, of course. Oakville could use GTHL imports -- but chooses not to. First and foremost. MOHA has to scramble to ensure a spot for everyone, whether it be house league or rep. A flux of imports, might rob a local kid out o f a place to play. And secondly, as a self styled community-based hockey program, MOHA believes its mandate is to develop hockey talent within its own community. So you won't find MOHA coaches and officials infiltrat ing GTHL strongholds; rather you'll see them keeping tap of the talent right here in Oakville, attending the lower level rep division games and even house league. MOHA, undoubtedly, wish the GTHL would adopt a similar approach. Murray believes the GTHL should con centrate on developing its own kids -- like Oakville does -- instead of fielding a huge number o f teams that require raiding outlying communities for talent. On the other hand. Murray said he's stopped wringing his hands over the issue. Oakville's exports, he said, are welcome and even encouraged to come back to their community where they can expect to be treated fairly and equally -- no more, no less. He believes the Oakville program, which looks after its own, is second to none. The organization has now long adopted a unified system called Mitron. Practice to game ratio is high, and the practices them selves are "high flow, high tempo." Offland training, both in-season and off-season, are also available, and in greater amounts as both age and level increases. Murray compares it to a school curriculum. It provides a common approach while allowing teachers/coaches plenty of room for their own input. (A G E C H A N G E) Next season, will usher in the age shuffle. What this basically means is that all the familiar desig nations. i.e. bantam, peewee, atom and novice, get lowered by a year. For instance, major bantams next year, instead o f being 15 years old will be 14 years old. With this nifty piece o f age-shuffling, the junior teams will no longer be accused of raiding bantam players, because now the 15-year-olds will be `minor midget'. Get it! Except for the odd vacancy. MOHA has announced its slate of coaches for next year. Check this issue. P ihyc CIcoji R ep a ir C cntA Q.E.W. N £ A U TO SERVICE & SALES | D * ACCREDITED REPAIR FACILITY S. SERVICE RD.
