John Kawiuk, the owner of the stores, said he opened a new store because he wanted to expand to a grandfather clock venue and at his other two loca tions, in Oakville Place and Mapleview Mall, his stores are " very compact." Kawuik said he has more space in his new store for all of his products. At Oakville Place he has two cuckoo clocks, here he has 35. " It's all about giving con sumers a wider range of choice so they can purchase the perfect item for themselves or for gifts," he said. "There's nowhere else in this area that you can look at 20 grandfather clocks in one place," he said. The new store opened on Feb. 15. The store's repair and servic ing of grandfather clocks has multiplied. He said even though he offered repairs at his other loca tions, " People associate us with grandfather clocks because we sell them now." Kawuik said that he didn't feel much trepidation about opening another store because he has been in business 1 1 years and has a " loyal following." Additionally, he looked at the growth along Dundas Street and saw lots of brand new homes, which means many new fam ilies w ill be coming to Oakville. Kawuik admitted it was a " calculated risk." The owner said his store has done a battery change for every man. woman and child in Oakville. " W e've done 100, 000 battery changes," he said. Regarding his future plans for Times Square stores, Kawuik plans on moving the Oakville Place Store into a kiosk at the mall. Whether or not he sees any more Times Square stores open ing, Kawuik said, he originally opened up at Oakville Place in 1991. He then opened a second store at Mapleview M all in 1996. And now, he has opened a store in 2002. 'Three stores opening over an 1 1-year period equals slow, controlled growth," said Kawiuk.
