Included among the competitors were four athletes from the host Oakville club who all competed on Saturday in the level three competition, which is the highest level in the province. Sunday's competition featured the province's national level competitors. The Oakville contingent were obvi ously inspired by the home crowd with great performances. "They did very well -- they definite ly met their goals," said Andrew Deslippe. the club's head coach. In fact, they did so well, that every club member posted a top-four result in at least one event. The ultimate highlights had to be Caitlin Huot's super consistent showing to place second overall in the level three senior category, and Angela Schempp taking top honours on the beam in the pre-junior category. Full results are included here. " I think the athletes enjoyed them selves," said Wayne Hussey, the club's general manager. " It was a nice atmosphere. Nice crowd on Sunday because that's when the national level athletes were compet ing. There were even a couple of nation al team members." For the Oakville club, it marked their fourth major event in as many years. Besides Elite Ontario, the club has also twice hosted the youth provincials (for the younger age groups) as well as the last chance `super' qualifier to the provincials. Ruchika Kum ar won the U19 national squash title this past weekend. Peter McCusker · Oakville Beaver and she more than lived up to her billing. Kumar did not lose a single game in the entire tournament, including her championship match which she won in three straight games against third-seeded Miranda Raniera. It was sweet revenge for Kumar who had suffered a couple of key upsets at the hands of Raniera last year. It started at last year's U-19 nationals in April when Kumar was derailed in the semifinals by Raniera. Kumar, then, rebounded to win the bronze medal. Kumar, however, wasn't at all displeased with the bronze medal, given that she had started out the year, in January, in a Hamilton hospital, in a life and death battle with meningitis. To be playing a national championship (and play ing up an age division, it should be noted) three months after battling such a critical illness exceeded anybody's expectations. No, it was not a bad way to end the season. But then last fall, when the current season kicked off. Kumar posted one of her worst ever results, at the Canadian Open. She was again ousted in the semifinals, this time (S ee 'N eha Kumar1 page D4) FROM 0 TO 100 IN 33,950 DOLLARS*. The 2.3 litre, 192 hp C 230 Kom pressor S p ort Coupe.
