River Oaks and Palermo public schools will be open next week for registration for the start of the new school year in September. The special summer registration period is meant to help minimize re-organizing of classes in the fall. Designated schools have been selected in Oakville, Burlington and Milton where new homes are under construction and likely to be ready for families to move in over the summer, stated a press release issued by the HDSB. River Oaks Public School is located at 2173 Munn's Ave., and Palermo Public School is at 2561 Valleyridge Dr. Parents of new students are asked to visit www.hdsb.ca for more information and to view a list of documents required for registration. Halton Student Transportation Service (HSTS) is also reminding parents of students who will be riding the bus for the first time come September to register for its safety program. HSTS and area bus operators will host a School Bus Orientation Day on Saturday, Aug. 23 at Oakville's Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School, 2420 Sixth Line. The sessions begin at 9 a.m. The orientation day is meant to review school bus safety. To register and secure a preferred time slot, call First Student Canada at 905-335-7010.
