Also advancing to finals were Burloak Canoe Club's Mark Oldershaw and Brady Reardon. After posting the second fastest time in K-1 (kayak singles) 1,000-metre heats, van Koeverden led wire to wire to win his semifinal, holding off a late charge by Slovakia's Peter Gelle to finish in three minutes, 30.689 seconds. Oldershaw finished second to reigning Olympic gold medallist Sebastien Brendl of Germany in his C-1 (canoe singles) 1,000m semifinal, but posted the third fastest time overall from the three semis (3:52.823). Reardon and Andrew Jessop of Halifax fin- ished third in their K-2 1,000m semifinal with a time of 3:17.036. Sixth after the first 250m, the duo gained a spot by the midway point of the race and moved up to third with 250m remaining. Reardon will also compete in K-4 1,000m along with Burloak's Rob Clarke beginning today (Friday). Burloak's Aaron Rublee will compete in the C-2 200m.
