"More than ever, people are realizing the importance of the tree canopy and nature in our urban setting," Karen Brock, Oakvillegreen president, said in a press release. "We are delighted that we will be able to deliver and expand a range of community environmental programs with local groups, schools, businesses and other community partners to make Oakville a healthier place to live." Hiring Oakvillegreen will be hiring an executive director and manager of tree and education programs with the new grant. Grassroots organization Oakvillegreen is a grassroots, nonpartisan community organization. It was founded in 1999 and works toward its mission of protecting and growing the natural environment in Oakville. Over the past 15 years, the association has put on advocacy and education programs and environmental initiatives, such as tree-planting events. "The work that Oakvillegreen does in our community is vital to protecting and educating local residents on important environmental issues," Indira Naidoo-Harris, MPP for Halton, stated in the funding announcement release.
