Already nervous, Hayden said he really started to sweat when the bride didn't make her appearance for 15 min utes. Apparently, she misplaced his wedding band, but found it just in time. Though it didn't snow like the new lyweds had hoped, the day was a mem orable event, especially for their guests who enjoyed a traditional Christmas dinner with all the fixings prepared and served by no other than the bride and groom themselves. Hayden explained that turkey has always been a Christmas tradition and getting married didn't change that. " The guests said it was the First time ever they heard a bride say, `I gotta check on the turkey.'" said Hayden, a maintenance mechanic for Toronto Community Housing Corporation. " I 'm expecting to gain lots of weight with her; she's a great cook," he added. The marriage, the second for both, came as a surprise to the couple who met more than a year ago at a singles dance. Both said they were bored to tears and went outside for fresh air, and began to talk. He asked her to marry him a year later. " This was the best Christmas ever," said the groom. 44. It was brought in especially for Burtch and her fellow youths and was powered by a line strung from a lone street lamp. Although Burtch didn't know the other Canadian students from Youth Beyond Borders, she was grateful for their presence. " It wasn't hard to adjust to all that we'd seen, heard and felt, because the others were going through it all at the same time." At home it's a different story. At some time she plans to fulfill a childhood mission to work in Africa with orphaned children. For now, she'll enjoy Christmas time with the family and friends she missed while away.
