Forwards Kristin O'Neill and Lindsay Agnew were named to the U18 squad Sunday, while forward Kristyn Capizzano and defenceman Mellissa Channell were selected to the national development team. Each club will compete in a threegame series against the U.S., beginning today (Thursday) in Calgary. Agnew tallied 10 goals and 15 assists in 37 games with the PWHL 's Mississauga Chiefs. Capizzano is coming off a 26-point freshman season (11 goals, 15 assists) at Boston College. Channell had two goals, 12 assists and a plus17 rating in 38 games last year, her first at the University of Wisconsin. Former Oakville Hornets player Victoria Bach, now a teammate of Agnew's with Mississauga, was also named to the national development team. Oakville golfers first and second at senior men's amateur provincials Larry Cooper beat out fellow Oakville resident Lars Melander to win the Investors Group Ontario Senior Men's Amateur Championship last week at Welland's Hunters Pointe Golf Course. Cooper entered Thursday's final round tied for first with two other players -- including Melander -- and with nine other players within three shots. The Mississauga Golf & Country Club member pulled away from the competition by carding a 68 despite windy conditions, finishing with a three-round score of 4-under-par 212. Melander was second, seven shots off the pace. "The wind makes a huge difference on this golf course and you really need to pick the right club. I was able to do that (Thursday). I tried to keep the ball down... and make sure I was finishing low at the target," said the 57-year-old Cooper, who also highlighted his putting as a key to the win. Melander struggled to start the final round, going 5-over-par on the first 15 holes, but birdied No. 16 and No. 18 to finish second by three shots. He was also the champion of the 60-plus division. By finishing in the top three at provincials, both Cooper and Melander will represent Ontario at the Canadian Senior Men's Championship, Aug. 26-29 at Capilano Golf & Country Club in West Vancouver, B.C. The Investors Group Ontario Senior Men's Championship is contested annually and features Ontario's best male amateur golfers age 55 and older.
