Bruins head into Christmas on a roll, top ranked college team in Ontario The Sheridan Bruins, now ranked number one in Ontario and fourth in Canada, sleep walked to a 77-60 w in over the Seneca Sting on Tuesday of last week in North York. Other than the win. the only thing noteworthy about the game was that it was coach Jim R ack's 300th career college win, and rather fitting in that it happened at Seneca where he started his coaching career. The Bruins came out in mem orable fashion, firing on all cylin ders for a 41-20 lead but than mailed in the rest of the game. That allowed Seneca to cut it to 41-28 at the break, followed by eight in a row to open the sec ond half to cut the deficit to 4136. Five minutes into the second half, Sheridan finally sunk a bas ket, which was immediately answered back by Seneca (4338). The Bruins, however, man aged a 15-point run (58-38) before both teams closed out the game basically turning the ball over to each other. Bashir Musse led the way for Sheridan with 25 points and six rebounds. Louis Moore and Geoff Proctor added 11 points each. Wayne Jones scored eight and dished out six assists. TOURNEY Midgets go through .500 stretch With an opportunity to gain a stranglehold on first place the Oakville Rangers midget AAA rep team ran into the injury bug and a string of highly motivated opponents bent on raining on the Rangers' parade to go 2-1-2 in their past five games. The Rangers sandwiched back to back losses between two o f their finest outings in league play this season. OAKVILLE 1. Brampton 1 (Nov. 19-home): in this battle for first place, once again nothing was resolved as the teams skated to their third tie in three games. Badly out-shot 28-15 by the Battalion, the Rangers rode the spectacular goaltending of Mike Binnington to claim the point. Binnington contributed at both ends o f the ice as he joined Carson Jenkin to help out on Mike Galbraith's lone Ranger marker. OAKVILLE 2, Burlington Eagles 0 (Nov. 21-home): the Rangers came through with a solid effort at both ends of the rink to notch their second victory over the resurgent Eagles. Chris Peebles opened the scoring mid way through the first period on a two-man advantage. Ryan Badham and John Davitskv assisted. Davitsky blasted a drive to the top shelf directly off o f the face-off for an unassisted short-handed goal and his second point o f the game. Matt Pike stopped 15 shots for his third shutout of the season. Halton 4. OAKVILLE 2 (Nov. 23-away): bent on playing lion-killer. the Hurricanes caught the Rangers short of healthy bodies and handed the guys their second defeat of the season. John Fairclough bagged a goal and an assist and then rejoined teammate David Dobrinsky on the injury list with another shoulder injury. Steve Wheeler also found the twine for the Rangers. Connor Farris. David Denino and Chris Peebles picked up the other helpers. Hamilton 4. OAKVILLE 1 (Nov. 27-home): after being on the receiving end of the lion's share of the bounces in a previous 6-0 decision over the Bulldogs, the Rangers were repaid by the hockey Gods with a 3-0 deficit after the first ten minutes. Although the Rangers were short five regulars, they bounced back to blitz the Hamilton keeper with 29 shots over the next two peri ods. Despite the barrage. Mike Turner on a short-handed breakaway, was the only Ranger to beat the red-hot keeper. Dan Ringwald set up the play. OAKVILLE 9. Guelph 2 (Nov. 30-home): following two successive setbacks, the Rangers needed a spirited effort and they came through big time against an over matched opponent also hobbled by injury and illness. The Storm opened the scoring in the opening minute but from then on it was all Oakville as 11 Rangers hit the score sheet. The Rangers led 3 -1 after one period, 6-2 after two and then coasted to victory with three third period goals. John Davitsky and John Fairclough each bagged a pair o f goals while singles went to Chris Peebles. Andrew Antidormi, Carson Jenkin. Steve W heeler, and Dan Ringwald.
