Patterson, a co-founder of the stand, is now working, but booked time off to attend. | photo by Graham Paine ­ Oakville Beaver (Follow on Twitter @halton_photog or facebook.com/HaltonPhotog) Recent public outcry over the Infrastructure Ontario's (IO) proposal to develop 60 townhouses on the Merton Lands adjacent to Third Line, has ended with the Province of cially withdrawing its bid, Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn said Wednesday. "The Province has no interest in moving forward with any development on these lands at all," Flynn told councillors and local residents who gathered at Langly Park to hear the announcement. "So, it's one of those days when the little guys win again." The 578-acre Merton Lands, on the north side of the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) and south of Upper Middle Road, between Bronte Road and Third Line, has been the focus of discussion in recent years. The Province's submission to the Town to develop the townhouses at Third Line, north of North Service Road, was met with stiff opposition from some Ward 4 residents, councillors and Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. "There was always going to be a ght with us over whether that land was, in fact, developable," Burton said after Wednesday's announcement, noting the lack of space available to build the required in-and-out roadways near Third Line. In addition to IO's now voided application, Bronte Green Corporation has also applied to the Town to develop the Saw-Whet Golf Course property into a residential subdivision.
