www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, September 11, 2014 | 24 I A September wedding day made perfect by family and friends niper, our eldest offspring, married Ashley Bigda, his high-school sweetheart, partner in crime, fellow social butter y, trusty travel companion, and best friend for about as long as anyone can recall. It was a day that was as perfect as a day can be. It began early enough, with a 6 a.m. wakeup call. Truth be told, we were all awake most of the night, kept on edge by a series of thunderstorms that ominously shook the house. As we mugged morning coffee, we grumbled at the grey skies and the continuing rumble of thunder off in the distance. A quick bite to eat and then everyone headed off in different directions to complete assigned tasks. The groomsmen arrived at our house at 8 a.m. to dress and be photographed before being chauffeured to Dundurn Castle to meet with the rest of the bridal party for more pictures. Early afternoon, the sun attempted to break through the clouds as the parents of the bride and groom arrived at the castle for photos. By the time we all reached the church for the ceremony, the sun was pouring down like honey. It was a beautiful service, brilliant light beaming through stained glass windows, after which we scooted across town to Carmen's Banquet Hall for the wedding reception. In case you haven't recently been to a wedding reception, let me say they've evolved considerably over the years. Back in the day, receptions -- not unlike life -- were simpler, typically smaller and less elaborate. And back when my wife and I got married (a.k.a. The Dark Ages), you got hitched, attended a quick, quiet celebration in a cave, then ran home to feed the goats. And, I say `ran' home because there were no stretch limousines back then -- given the wheel had not yet been invented -- and because there were certain dino- t was the day all of our worlds -- and all the wonderful people in those worlds -- collided. Close associates from the work world, old and fast friends, and near-and-dear members of both my wife's and my family, all assembled in one vast venue for one super celebration. That's right, dear readers: they did it, and they did it up right. On Saturday, Sept. 6, Matthew Ju- That's Life Andy Juniper Guest Contributor YOU CAN EARN MORE. Seriously, Matt and Ashley's wedding was an awesome, elaborate affair, which is to say the happy couple poured heart and soul into their wedding, they sweated even the tiniest detail in their desire for their day to be perfect, and they were duly rewarded. It was indeed a fairytale day, an unforgettable memory in the making. From the bar, where mixologist Matt Jones made magic, to the savory food, creative dance-ins, speeches and dance that followed. But what made the day so wonderful for my wife and I, was seeing Matt and Ashley tie the knot, and then celebrate their nuptials in front of a spectacular collision of all our worlds. In front of friends from all walks of life. In front of family we don't see nearly enough. In front of so many people we care so deeply about, all assembled in one vast venue for one super celebration. -- Andy Juniper can be contacted at ajjuniper@ gmail.com, found on Facebook, or followed on Twitter at www.twitter .com/thesportjesters.
