Nearby Rotherglen School was put on hold and secure while anxious parents (centre) arrived at the school and waited to pick up their children. Police said Maiorano was released from the facility on a one-day permit in April 2014 and never returned. A female, who was driving the vehicle stopped Tuesday, and whose citizenship and involvement in the incident remains unclear, was taken into police custody. It's not known if she is still being held, or is facing charges. The Toronto Police Service's Fugitive Squad has now taken over the investigation and tips submitted to Halton police will be forwarded to that squad. "Their role is to apprehend persons who are wanted that have fled other jurisdictions into our jurisdiction," Maher explained. Toronto police said in a release that Maiorano is known to have ties to the Greater Toronto Area and that "anyone who is found assisting him will be charged and prosecuted." Several neighbours at the Oakville townhouse complex said they hadn't seen Maiorano, or the white SUV , on their street before Tuesday. see Fugitive on p.12 "A search of the area, as well as two different residences, has been ongoing since that time," Maher said.
