The event will begin at 6 p.m. when the streets will fill with live entertain ment, food and bargains. Lakeshore Road will be closed from Navy to Allan streets, including all side streets from Church to Robinson streets. The Downtown Oakville BIA is inviting non-profit community groups and organizations to participate in the festivities. Both Rebecca, 35, and Mike, 27, are blind - blind since birth. The pair met at a CNIB camp at Lake Joseph near P arry Sound four years ago, and struck up a friendship th at lasted the summer. After camp, they went their separate ways. Then, almost two years ago, Mike came back into Rebecca's life - he happened to call the CNIB asking about a ride and Rebecca, who was volunteering there, picked up the phone. Their friendship was rekindled. In M arch 2001 the couple got engaged. Both have a BA in English Mike earned his at the University of Toronto's Erindale Cam pus in 1998, and Rebecca graduated from M cM aster University in 1991. This is a friendly invasion and will be lots of fun for the students and their host fami lies. Host families are currently needed for 12 Spanish students in July, and homes for Spanish and French students for August. The July and August program has different stu dents participating but families can participate in both months. This is the 16th year that Red Leaf Student Program is bring ing students to Oakville. The stu dents, male and female, range from 13 to 19 years. The students attend school and planned activities during the week and spend evenings and weekends with their host fami lies. Remuneration of $150 per stu dent per week is paid to the family to offset costs. During their four-week stay the students enjoy weekly excur sions to Canada's Wonderland, Niagara Falls and enjoy a canoe trip from Paris to Brantford. The students will also enjoy Midnight Madness with its sidewalk sale and the dancing in the streets. The benefits are numerous. Families have the opportunity to learn about anoth er culture, and new and lasting friendships are made.
