Public invited to walk with liver transplant recipient The public is invited to walk with liver transplant recipient George Marcello, 45, as he brings his Canada 769 Day Walk fo r Life to Oakville on Thursday - the 731st day, and second anniversary, of his trek. Marcello will begin his Oakville walk at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital at 12:30 p.m., arriving at Trafalgar Village at about 1 p.m., Oakville Place at about 1:30 p.m., Sheridan College at about 2:15 p.m., and Iroquois Ridge Community Centre at about 3:45 p.m. He will walk north from the hospital on Reynolds Street, west on Cornwall Road, north on Trafalgar Road, with a side trip on Cross Avenue to Trafalgar Village and back, then continue north on Trafalgar Road to Oakville Place and Sheridan College, east on Upper Middle Road, north on Grosvenor Street and west on Glenashton Drive to the Iroquois Ridge Community Centre. People can join his walk at any loca tion along the route. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and the use of strollers and wagons is encouraged for greater safety. Thursday has been declared `Michael's Day' in honour of an Oakville resident, Mike Blagojevic, whose organs and tissues saved the lives of three people and enriched the lives of 29 others. He died on June 20, 2000. On that same day, Marcello started walking to promote the importance of organ and tissue donation. His visit in Oakville will be co-ordi nated by Debbie Blagojevic, Mike's mom, and a volunteer with MORE Multiple Organ Retrieval and Exchange. A media conference will be held at the Iroquois Ridge Community Centre at 4 p.m., with Mayor Ann Mulvale, Dr. Terrance Da Silva, Charles Gibbs, plus donor families and friends. Marcello hopes to visit 600 commu nities at the completion of his walk. His aim is to convince the federal government to create the `Precious Consent' system for organ donation.
