Julie McDermott and her husband Stephen organized the event, which involved 50-60 local families. Stephen noted during the race, 15 families hosted different challenges in various locations throughout the neighbourhood. Each group of four or five kids, led by an adult, completed the challenge at each station before moving on. The race also served as a fundraising opportunity for "Remembering Betty," a cancer charity that seeks to help minimize the financial burden associated with breast cancer for patients and survivors so they can focus on recovery and quality of life. New Kids On The Block member Danny Wood founded the organization in memory of his mother Betty who died of breast cancer in 1999. "This is the third time we have held this event. We do it for the kids in the neighbourhood. It's a big birthday party also celebrating back to school, but my kids decided that instead of birthday presents, they would like money to be donated to a cancer organization," said Julie McDermott. "It's specifically for breast cancer because a lot of their friends and also family have been impacted by this." The event was by invitation only. However, anyone who wishes to donate to "Remembering Betty" can do so at http://rememberbetty.com.
