The Women's Information and Support Centre of Halton will host the event starting at 6:30 p.m. The gala honours women who have made a unique contribution to community life in Halton in four different categories: Health and Wellness; Arts and Culture; Personal Achievement plus Community; and Humanitarian Services. The event also recog nizes the Women's Information and Support Centre by being a major fundraiser for the serv ices that the Centre provides to the women of Halton. "The contribution that Halton women make to this community is amazing." said Melvina Walter. Executive Director o f the Women's Information and Support Centre. "We are always impressed by the caliber of women who are nominated and the support of the event." The awards honour Halton women whose exemplary services to others set new standards of leadership, responsiveness, action, persever ance and social awareness. Through this awards program, the Women's Oriah Mountain Dreamer Information and Support Centre brings recogni tion to the roles that women have in the com munity life in Halton. Last year, four women were honoured: Catherine Bobesich, Betty Chauvin, Marina Lloyd and Joyce Savoline. This year, 14 women have been nominated: Sally Armstrong, Ethel Gardiner, Elizabeth Grandbois, Lora Kapetanios, Anita Le BlancDomachevsky, Liana Renwick-Palmerio. Marilyn Serjeantson. Irene Wedeles, Carol Martin, Linda Elgar. Renee Sandelowsky. Dorothy Borovich. Alicia Snell and Shirley Jane Scarfo. The guest speaker at this year's Awards is Oriah Mountain Dreamer, teacher and author of The Invitation and The Dance. She has fin ished her manuscript for her newest book. The Call. "In my first marriage, I was physically abused. So I will be drawing on my past expe riences, such as how isolating it is. I will also be talking about the healing of ourselves, and how to serve in a sustainable way," said Dreamer. "I suspect these women are enormous givers. The risk is that they bum out. We need to look at how all of us can offer something in the community without burning out." Dreamer added that she was very happy to be the guest speaker, since the W omen's Information and Support Centre offers a valu able service to the community. The award ceremony will include a silent auction, raffle, hors d 'oeuvres. dessert, tea, cof fee and a cash bar. The Italian restaurant might be a little I hard to find, since it is hidden from view, but it's worth the time to visit and experience their authentic Italian cuisine, warm hospitality and an elegant dining room complete with dance floor. Owner Johnny Cicciarella says although you might not see people strolling down sidewalks or have a view of the lake, once you step inside the restaurant you will real ize that you are in one of the most beautiful places in Oakville. The open concept style is tastefully decorated, with faux stone walls, gilt mirrors, stately columns, and arched walkways, all in the same rustic earth tones, which makes you feel as if you've just walked into an Italian piazza. Johnny says Elite is the perfect place for private parties, where guests can enjoy complimentary games of pool on their upscale tables, get cozy in their private lounge, or dance the night away on the restaurant's dance floor. Not only does Elite offer all of these features in a relaxed atmosphere, the restau rant's traditional Italian cuisine features tempting items as Calainari Fritti, Penne Elite (with roasted red peppers, grilled chicken and wild mushrooms in a blush sauce), and Veal Marsala with mushrooms. Elite also offers special features on their menu board on a weekly basis, which include lobster tails, jumbo shrimp, sea bass, gnocchi and veal. In May, Elite will be introducing their new lunch menu, which will include some of the traditional favourites as well as some new additions. As well. Elite will feature live bands every Friday night and ballroom dancing. Being voted Best Entertainment by Oakville Beaver readers. Elite has never dis appointed those looking to enjoy an evening of entertainment with their Dinner & Show series.
