Siemens Canada investing $15K in Garth Webb program by John Bkila Oakville Beaver Staff 7 | Thursday, September 18, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Garth Webb Secondary School's robotics room was the perfect setting for Oakville-based Siemens Canada to make a $15,000 donation to the school Monday toward a new Advanced Manufacturing and Robotics program. The donation was made to the Halton Learning Foundation (HLF), which acquires and allocates resources to improve educational opportunities and eliminate economic barriers to learning for Halton District School Board (HDSB) students. Hosted by the HLF , the announcement highlighted the work of local industry, the Canadian Manufacturing Association (CMA), Canadian Tooling and Machining Association (CTMA) and HDSB in development of a provincial classroom and program model for delivery of advanced manufacturing. "We're really raising the profile of manufacturing at Garth Webb... and in the province," said Dave Lewis, HDSB Pathways and Technological Education co-ordinator. "This generous donation and support by Siemens Canada will go a long way in creating an engaging environment for our students at the same time as creating a very positive partnership between education and the workplace. "This state-of-the art program... will provide amazing opportunities for our students," he said. "Not only are you (Siemens) going to be helping Garth Webb and the Halton District School Board, but you're setting an example for other companies to get involved with their (local) school to raise the level and profile of technological education not only in Halton but across the province." Robert Hardt, Siemens Canada president and The Halton Learning Foundation (HLF) picked up $15,000 for Garth Webb Secondary School's Advanced Manufacturing and CEO, said the donation is also an investment of Robotics program from Siemens Canada.
