Premier Golf Classic This year's fourth annual Premier Charity Golf Classic will be held on Thursday, June 27. Besides treating all of its players to an unparal leled day of golf and cam araderie, the Oakville-based tourna ment, which is being held at Heron Point G olf Links, just outside of Ancaster, has set its sights on a hefty increase to $40,000. This year, again, the Crime Stoppers golf TD Canada Trust is holding a golf tourna ment in support of Crime Stoppers of Halton primary recipient of the proceeds will be Oakville's Ian Anderson House. Ian Anderson House is a six-bed residential hos pice that offers quality end-of-life palliative care to families in our com munity who, for whatev er reason, are unable to provide the necessary round-the-clock care at home to a family member who has terminal cancer. Ian Anderson House relies on the generosity of the community to cover ongoing operating costs. This year, the Premier Charity Golf Classic is also providing support to the Oakville Children's Choir. The choir is commit ted to providing opportu nities for children from all social economic back grounds to enjoy and develop through music. Volunteers help out the tournament as play ers, sponsors or contribu tors to the always popular prize table. The Oakville Beaver is the official media sponsor of the event. The Oakville team has one win in exhibition play so far this year but has failed to pick up a league win and Sunday's loss leaves the squad with an 0-5 record. The Buzz will hope to put an end to the early loosing skid Thursday with a league game against Markham. The Optimist Club Oakville is once again spon soring a qualifying golf tour nament for the junior world Optimist district tourney. The event will be held Sunday, June 9 at Deerfield G olf Club, 2363 North Service Road, Oakville, with tee-offs beginning 1:30 p.m. Entry fee costs $50, including lunch. There will be four age groups for each of boys and girls as fol lows: 10-11, 1213, 14-15 and 1618. Those playing in the oldest division must not have turned 19 prior to August 1, 2002. The winner in each age group will be sponsored to compete in the district event to be held June 24 at Castlemore G olf Club in Brampton, Ont.
