Coyotes prove tough test for visitors Brampton's Global In-Line Hockey Festival, which is running all this week, has attracted teams from around the world, and a couple of them dropped by Oakville last week for tune-up games. "Kind o f neat stuff," said Jay Labelle.who heads up the Oakvillebased Halton Roller Hockey league. The international visitors found the going tough in Oakville with an English team losing 10-2 to an Oakville U-10 team and a German team losing 12-3 to the Oakville Coyotes bantam rep team. Annual 0TMH tournament Aug. 21 This year's 23rd annual Oakville Beaver charity golf tournament in sup port of Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) will be held this year on Wednesday, August 21 at Wyldewood G olf Course, which, as usual, has chipped in its fine links. The driving force behind this tour nament is CONNECTIONS, an associ ation of three well established local Oakville firms who are specialists in asset growth and risk management. The three firms are Vince Tomenson Dickerson Insurance Brokers; Assante; and Cumming & Cumming Wealth Management. They're located at 1540 Cornwall Road. Last year, they took over steward ship of this venerable tournament with the result being a spectacular record amount o f $60,000 handed over to our local hospital. Great start for Fusion with tourney championship in Weston The Oakville Fusion Boys U-10 all star team got their 2002 summer season off to a great'start by winning the Weston Spring Classic All-Star Tournament with spirit and determination. Oakville won the championship game 3-0 over Concord Power. Oakville drew a strong team in the semifinal, and prevailed 1-0 over USC Karpaty on penalty kicks, With two great saves by the Fusion keeper, one hit cross-bar by Karpaty and three great strikes by the Fusion the game was settled. In the weather shortened (lightning and thunder) preliminary round, Oakville had tied Concord Power 1-1 and blasted North Toronto 6-1. College scouts watch Strikers win Woodbridge tournament The Oakville Strikers boys AA rep soccer team have got their season off to a flying start. They won the prestigious U -17 Woodbridge showcase invitational, which is attended by many U.S. university coaches. Oakville defeated Vaughan 2-1 in the championship game. Petro Czoli and Miran Zaki put Oakville out in front 2-0. In the semifinal, Oakville twice came from behind to edge Markham3-2 in extra time. The golden goal was a beautiful set-up from Jeffrey Dakwah to Gary Aguiar. Darkwah also scored as did Matthew Silva. (Preliminary round action) Oakville 1, Woodbridge 0: Oakville came out stronger in the first half and converted on Michael Medeiros' 25yard rocket to the top comer. Darlington 1: Darlington took the lead midway through the second half but Oakville maintained their poise and scored two goals in the final 10 minutes. Scorers were Gary Aguiar and Jeffrey Darkwah.
