contineud from p.1 A friend since Grade 9, Joanne Dixon refuses to give up hope. And to honour her pal, she is holding Jodii's second annual Journey for a Cure, Saturday, Oct. 18 at Monaghan's Pub and Grill, 1289 Marlborough Ct., Oakville. Last year's event raised almost $8,000. "Jodii always donated her time to diabetes and fundraised all the time," Dixon said. "She can't fight any more. She has no choice. I took it upon myself to fight for her." The event will raise funds for Camp Huronda. One of the Canadian Diabetes Association's D-Camps, Huronda empowers children to self-manage diabetes in a supportive environment and meet other kids with similar experiences, while enjoying activities like Friends and family never give up for Jodii's sake swimming, hiking, canoeing and campfires. Sandberg-Wheler went to D-Camps. "I know Jodii would want the money to go to the camps," Dixon said. The event will include a children's talent show from 3-5 p.m. After 5 p.m., the Black Sabbath tribute band Black Ozz will perform and there will be prizes and games. Tickets cost $20. For more information, email joannedixon94@hotmail.com or call 226927-0275 Dixon says the whole event is run by Sandberg-Wheler's friends, including members of the band and people donating prizes and supplies. Dixon also organized a motorcycle ride in London, Ont. and raised more than $1,000 for D-Camps. Cam and Trenton will be there. Another run is being held in Jodii's memory on Oct. 18 in Hamilton. "She would have done this for anybody," Dixon said. "I wish she knew we were doing it and that we are all fighting for her. I think she does know." 3 | Friday, October 10, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Jodii Sandberg-Wheler is pictured with her son Trenton. | photo courtesy of the Sanberg-Wheler family inside today's Editorial Sports Beaver www.insideHALTON.com Sore Feet, Sports Injury, Painful Ingrown Toenails?
