The issue was raised at a debate hosted Wednesday by the River Oaks Association of Residents (ROAR) for candidates running for local, and local and regional councillor in the Ward. Regional candidate Jeff Knoll said he's led the charge at the Region and will continue to see that Oakville has a voice at the table. "The noise from the air traffic is an unwelcome challenge to the landscape of our community ," Knoll said. "I have led our Town and Region's efforts to work directly with the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) to get action." Halton has a member appointed to the GTAA, who reports to Regional council annually, but Knoll said that could change come next council term. "My council colleagues and I we want to change it so it's actually a member of (Regional) council," he said. Knoll said he's been assured, after a lengthy wait, Oakville will also have at least one seat alongside Brampton, Mississauga and Toronto on the Community Environment and Noise Advisory Committee (CENAC) later this year. CENAC is chaired by a GTAA member and reports back to its board on noise-related issues at Pearson. Halton's health department is also set to have a voice on the Environment Working Group, a professional committee that reports to CENAC. Candidate and former Oakville mayor Ann Mulvale was critical of Knoll's action on the issue during the campaign. "It's amazing how an election stimulates somebody doing their job, isn't it?" Mulvale said. "I hear at the doors that nothing was happening, now all of a sudden everything's happening." Mulvale said under her watch the Region's representative on the GTAA board would have been called to a public meeting with residents. see Concerns on p.9
