A 2 - The Oakville Beaver, W ednesd ay July 17, 2002 A photo caption in the Sunday, July 10 edition of The Oakville Beaver stated that the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters has a new Tackle Share program in many provincial parks, including Bronte Creek. The program has existed for three years and was brought to Oakville two years ago by federation member club, the Oakville Rod & Gun Club, with assistance from the Civitan Club, Oakville Fire Department and Canadian Tire. Tackle is available at local fire sta tions. Habitat for Humanity branches out to Halton Habitat for Humanity is going regional. Burlington's Habitat For Humanity announced this week that it's being renamed Habitat for Humanity Halton. The local chapter is part of the international, independent, not-for-profit, faith-based housing program dedicated to the elimination of substandard anjl poverty housing by build ing homes in partnership with families in need. Becoming a regional affili ate will enable the local chap ter to serve a greater segment of the local community, said the chair of its board of direc tors. "The number of families living at or below the poverty line in Halton continues to grow," said Perry Catena. "Some of the rental accommo dation that is available not only takes upwards of 50 per cent of these family's funds but is often in such disrepair that most people would not even consider renting it." Habitat depends entirely on the generosity of corporations and individuals, so the move to Habitat Halton should pro vide a much larger group of potential donors to which the volunteers can seek support. And it looks like the name change is already paying divi dends. Employees from Burling ton's Cumis Group recently, donated almost $7,500 to Habitat to help finance the kitchen of the group's second home to be built in Burling ton. The money was raised as part of the employee's Heart of the Home fundraiser that was launched two months ago. Last fall, Habitat complet ed its first home in Burlington; ground-breaking for its second project is set for August. You can learn more about Habitat for Humanity Halton and find an application form on its Web site at www.habitathalton.org. Additional donations of cash, gifts for silent auctions and volunteer time are always welcomed by Habitat. ACHIEVE TOTAL WEIGHT CONTROL Jackie did it, and so can you!
